> [!NOTE]
> This feature is optional. If you don't see **Redirects** in your Admin, your site may not use it or your role may not have access. Ask your agency if you'd like to use it.

A redirect automatically sends someone visiting an old address to a new one. Use it when you move or rename a page, so links in emails, bookmarks and search results still lead somewhere useful.

## Add a redirect

1. Open **Redirects** and choose **Create new Redirect**.
2. In **From URL**, enter the old path, starting with `/`, such as `/old-contact`. Use the part after your website's name.
3. Under **To URL Type**, choose **Internal Link** to select a page, or **Custom URL** to enter an address in **Custom URL**. For a move within your site, an address such as `/contact` is enough.
4. Choose **Redirect Type**. **308 - Permanent Redirect** is for a lasting move. **307 - Temporary Redirect** is for a destination that will change back.

5. Open **Advanced settings** and review **Preserve query string** if available. This keeps extra information after a question mark, such as a campaign name, when someone follows the old link. Ask your agency to check it if campaign tracking depends on it.
6. Select **Save**. Visit the old address in a separate tab and check where you land.

## Move a whole group of addresses

An asterisk `*` means "take the matching part of this address with you". You do not need a separate wildcard switch.

| From URL | Destination | Result |
| ------------- | ------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------ |
| `/old-blog/*` | `/blog/*` | `/old-blog/news` becomes `/blog/news`. |
| `/old-blog/*` | `/blog/*` | `/old-blog/2026/news` becomes `/blog/2026/news`. |
| `/old-blog/*` | An **Internal Link** to the blog page | Every matching address goes to that one page. |

A `*` at the end includes everything after it, including further slashes. A `*` in the middle, as in `/shop/*/reviews`, matches one part only. For rules with several asterisks, ask your agency to check the pattern and destination.

> [!IMPORTANT]
> A matching redirect takes priority over content at that address. Check broad wildcard rules carefully: they can send visitors away from pages you still want them to see.

## Avoid loops

The old and new addresses must be different. Do not make one redirect send to an address that redirects straight back. Where possible, send the old address directly to the final destination.

## Check afterwards

Test the old address, the final page, and a few different addresses for a wildcard rule. Check both a short path and a path with another slash. Make sure the final destination exists and is published.
