> [!NOTE]
> This feature is optional. If you don't see **Cookie Consent** in **General Settings**, your site may not use it or your role may not have access. Ask your agency if you'd like to use it.

You'll update the cookie banner's wording and links, then check the choices visitors see. Visitors can accept, reject or customize optional cookies. The settings let you edit the wording and listed cookies; your agency connects those choices to the services used by your site.

## The settings tab

1. Open **General Settings** and choose **Cookie Consent**.
2. Review the banner and preferences wording. Keep the meaning of each choice clear.
3. Check the policy links, categories and cookie entries against the information your agency supplied.
4. On multilingual sites, review the wording in each content language.
5. Choose **Save**. Check the public banner in a private browser window so an earlier cookie choice does not hide it.

| Field or section | What it does | Tip |

| **Consent modal** | Holds the first banner's title, description and button wording. | Explain the choices plainly. |
| **Accept all button** / **Reject all button** / **Customize button** | Sets the labels for the main choices. | Keep each action unambiguous. |
| **Preferences modal** | Holds the detailed choices and explanatory wording. | Explain what each optional category is used for. |
| **Save button** | Sets the wording for saving a visitor's preferences. | Use wording that describes the action. |
| **Categories** | Holds the labels and descriptions for the fixed categories. | The categories cannot be added or removed here. |

| **Cookie table headers** | Sets the headings used in the cookie tables. | Keep headings short and clear. |

## Categories and cookie entries

The categories are **Strictly necessary**, **Functional**, **Analytics**, **Performance** and **Advertisement**. Describe the actual use on your site rather than copying wording from another website.

| Cookie field | What it does | Tip |
| --------------- | ---------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------- |
| **Name** | Identifies the cookie. | Use the name supplied by your agency. |
| **Category** | Places it in the appropriate preference group. | Do not guess which category it belongs to. |
| **Description** | Explains its purpose to visitors. | State what it does in plain words. |
| **Duration** | Describes how long it remains. | Confirm the value with your agency. |
| **Party** | Identifies it as **First-party** or **Third-party**. | Ask your agency if the provider is unclear. |
| **Domain** | Identifies the domain associated with the cookie. | Copy the checked value accurately. |

Adding an entry to this list does not install or block a service. Tell your agency when you add analytics, video, chat or advertising tools so they can check the banner and consent behavior.

> [!IMPORTANT]
> Clearing wording leaves it empty on the banner; it does not restore a default. An empty link list removes those links, and an empty cookie list removes its entries.

## Check afterwards

Check the public banner and its preferences in a browser with no saved choice. Follow the policy links, inspect the category descriptions and test accepting, rejecting and saving choices. Ask your agency to verify that optional services follow those choices.
