A template decides the page's overall structure. Blocks fill in its content. Choose the template before building a new page so you can see the fields it needs.

## Choose a template

1. Open a page in **Pages**.
2. Find **Page Template** in the sidebar. Choose **Default** for an ordinary page, or **Archive** for a post listing when your site uses posts.
3. Review the tabs and fields that appear. Save a draft and preview before publishing.

Changing templates can switch which content fields are displayed. Check the whole page before publishing the change.

| Template | What it does | Tip |
| ------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Default** | Gives you a hero and a main content area for text and blocks. | Use for About, Services, Contact, and other ordinary pages. |
| **Archive** | Gives you a post listing with content before and after it. | Use for a blog or news overview, not for writing a single article. |
| Post layouts | Give a single post its article structure and post details. | Edit these through **Posts**, not the Pages template picker. |

## The Default template

Use **Content** for the hero and page body. The opening hero has its own fields; the body can combine paragraphs and [blocks](https://docs.systhema.app/nl/next/editor-guide/pages/blocks.md). **SEO** holds search and sharing details.

The hero **Title** is the heading visitors see. **Page title** is the name you see in the Admin.

## Hero types

![The opening hero fields with the available Hero Type choices](./images/post-template.light.webp)

| **Hero Type** | What it does | Tip |
| ------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Simple** | Shows an opening heading and introduction, with optional media. | A useful starting point for most pages. |
| **With Background** | Places the opening content over an image or video. | Check the text against both light and dark areas of the media. |
| **Feature** | Places media beside the opening text. | Use **Media Float** to choose its side. Check the smaller-screen order. |
| **None** | Omits the template's opening hero. | Make sure the body still gives the page a clear main heading. |

| Hero field | What it does | Tip |
| -------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Label (optional)** | Adds a short line above the heading. | A category or short introduction works well. |
| **Title** | Sets the main visible heading. | Keep it clear and reasonably short. |
| **Description** | Adds introductory text and available inline items. | Put detailed information in the page body. |
| **Content Alignment** | Aligns the opening text where the chosen hero offers it. | Preview before choosing a centered layout for long text. |
| **Media Float** | Chooses the media side for a Feature hero. | Check the text/media order on mobile. |
| **Media Enabled** | Adds media to a Simple hero. | Enable it only when the image helps explain the page. |
| **Media Type** | Chooses the media used by a Feature hero. | Complete the matching image, video, YouTube, or map field. |
| **Select image or video** | Chooses the background media for a background hero. | Use an image with room for readable text. |
| **Disable overlay** | Removes the background hero's overlay. | Keep the overlay if it helps the text remain readable. |
| **Enable parallax effect** | Adds a moving media effect where offered. | Check the result in preview. |

Fields change with the chosen hero. Keep the defaults until you have checked how the new content looks.

## The Archive template

> [!NOTE]
> This feature is optional. If you don't see **Posts** in your Admin, your site may not use it or your role may not have access. Ask your agency if you'd like to use it.

The archive has **Hero**, **Prepend**, **Posts**, **Append**, and **SEO** tabs. **Prepend** is content before the listing, and **Append** is content after it.

![Archive hero settings with Enable search, Filters to show, and Filter style](./images/archive-template.light.webp)

| Field or tab | What it does | Tip |
| -------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Enable search** | Offers visitors a text search for the archive. | Use when there are enough posts to search through. |
| **Filters to show** | Chooses the visitor's category, tag, or other available filters. | Offer only useful filters. An empty choice gives no filters. |
| **Filter style** | Changes how the filter controls look. | Choose a style that remains easy to use on mobile. |
| **Posts** | Controls the listing source, order, quantity, and layout. | Use automatic selection for a listing that updates as you publish posts. |
| **Prepend** and **Append** | Hold supporting content around the listing. | Keep the main list easy to find. |

See the [Posts block](https://docs.systhema.app/nl/next/editor-guide/pages/blocks.md#posts) for the shared listing controls.

## Single post layouts

Single posts live in **Posts**. Their editor has article content and hero choices, plus details such as an excerpt and featured image. Your agency may supply additional post layouts for your site.

For writing and managing articles, continue with [Blog posts](https://docs.systhema.app/nl/next/editor-guide/posts.md).

## Check afterwards

Preview the hero, every body section, and the page's bottom. On an archive, test the search and filter controls and check that the intended posts appear. Publish only after the complete layout is ready.
