Writing a post

Write an article, choose its featured image and publish it on your blog.

On this page

You'll write a post, give it a clear summary and featured image, and check it on the public site. Have your text and an image ready before you begin.

Create the articleLink to this section

  1. Open Posts and choose Create new Post. Enter a Post title that tells readers what the post is about.

  2. Write in Content. Use the text toolbar for headings, lists and links. Break long articles into sections. See editing content for the editor controls.

  3. Choose a Hero Type. For a visible opening heading, choose Simple and fill in the hero's Title. None removes the hero; Post title still identifies the post in the Admin and lists.

  4. Review URL path and the Permalink preview beneath it. URL path is the address ending; the preview shows the full post address using your site's blog settings. Keep it short and readable. Once a post is public, changing it may need a redirect.

  5. Write an Excerpt: one or two sentences that help someone decide whether to read the article.

  6. Under Featured image, select Choose from existing and pick an image from Uploads. Review its alternative text and crop in the media library.

  7. Choose an Author, Category and any Tags. Set Published date to the date you want shown. A date alone does not publish an article.

  8. If you want to recommend particular articles, choose them in Related posts. Your site's blog settings decide how this selection is used.

Save and publishLink to this section

  1. Choose Save Draft to keep unfinished work private.
  2. Use the preview control to check the heading, content and image. On sites with an SEO tab for posts, review its search title, description and sharing image too. See SEO for the defaults.
  3. Choose Publish changes when the post is ready. Wait for Published status. If the publish control is missing, ask the person responsible for publishing to review your draft.
  4. Open the address shown in Permalink preview in a separate tab. If a preview bar appears, choose Exit preview mode before checking what visitors see.
