Blog posts
Understand how posts, archives, authors and blog settings work together.
On this page
A post is an article with its own address. An archive is a page that lists articles. Publishing a post makes it available at its address; the archive's filters decide whether it appears in that list.
Start with writing a post, then categories and tags and authors.
How visitors find your postsLink to this section
Your site can show posts on a blog archive, in a Posts block on another page, or through a direct link. Lists usually show the title, featured image and excerpt. Their design depends on your site.
An archive may let visitors search, choose a category or tag, and move between pages of results.
Change an archiveLink to this section
You can adjust an existing blog archive without changing the articles themselves.
-
Open Pages and choose your blog page.
-
Open its Posts tab. This tab appears on a page using the Archive template.
-
Under Listing, choose whether the list should find posts automatically or use a fixed selection. Adjust the fields below.
-
Use Publish changes when the page is ready. Open the public archive and check its first page and filters.
| Field | What it does | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Source | Automatic (query) finds matching published posts; Fixed (hand-picked) uses your selected posts. | A fixed list needs updating when you want to feature a new article. |
| Filter by categories / Filter by tags | Restricts an automatic list to those topics. | An article outside the selected topics will not appear here. |
| Order by / Direction | Chooses the order of articles. | Publish date with Descending puts newer articles first. |
| Posts per page | Sets how many articles appear at once. | Check that the layout still looks balanced. |
| Layout | Chooses the available card layout. | The choices depend on your site's design. |
| Loading strategy | Chooses how visitors reach more results. | Check the next-page or load-more control on the public site. |
| Color / Background Variant | Sets the listing's colors. | Keep text readable against its background. |
The Hero, Prepend and Append tabs control the heading and content before and after the list. See page templates.
Settings for the whole blogLink to this section
Open General Settings → Posts. These settings affect every post, so agree changes with your agency if you are unsure.
| Field | What it does | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Permalink pattern | Sets the address pattern for posts. | Changing it can break existing links; plan redirects first. |
| Show author byline | Shows the writer's name on articles. | The name comes from the selected author account. |
| Show publish date | Shows the article date. | Keep the date accurate when updating older articles. |
| Enable share buttons | Displays sharing controls. | Check the public article after changing them. |
| Share targets | Chooses the available sharing services. | Native share uses a visitor's device sharing menu where supported. |
| Position / Button style | Sets where share buttons appear and how they look. | Keep the controls easy to find. |
| Strategy | Controls how related posts are chosen. | Manual then automatic uses chosen articles first, then fills remaining places automatically. |
| Automatic match | Chooses the topics used to find related articles. | Useful categories and tags improve the matches. |
| Maximum posts | Limits the related-post list. | A short, relevant list is easier to browse. |
