Media library
Upload and describe images, reuse library files in blocks, and check image settings before publishing.
On this page
Uploads is the shared library for images and other files. Upload a file once, then choose it wherever the site offers a media field.
Upload an imageLink to this section
-
Open Uploads and choose Create new Upload.
-
Choose Select a file and select a file from your computer, or drag it into the upload area. Check the size limit shown in your Admin.
-
Fill in Alternative text for an image. Describe the useful subject or meaning, not its filename.
-
Choose Save. Find the file in Uploads before using it on a page.
| Field or control | What it does | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Select a file | Selects a file from your computer. | Use a clear filename so your team can find it later. |
| Paste URL | Uploads from a file address you enter. | Use a file you have permission to reuse. |
| Alternative text | Describes the image when a visitor cannot see it. | Explain what matters in the context where the image is used. |
| Edit Image | Opens the available image editing controls. | Review the result before saving a change to a reused image. |
| No Folder | Shows or changes the file's folder placement. | Use folders when they help your team find files. |
| Uploaded by | Records who uploaded the file. | This is library information, not text on the website. |
Write useful alternative textLink to this section
A useful description could be "Our team discussing a project around a table". For a logo, use the organization's name. Avoid "image of", camera filenames, or a description that repeats the nearby paragraph without adding anything.
The same library file can appear on several pages, so choose wording that works for its intended uses. If the image contains essential words, include their meaning in the page's text too.
Why this matters: visitors using a screen reader hear the alternative text. Visitors whose images do not load can also use it to understand the page.
If an upload does not saveLink to this section
- Stay on the upload screen and read the message. Check the file type and size against the limits shown there.
- Check your connection and that you are still signed in. Try saving again when those are working.
- Return to Uploads and search for the filename before uploading it again, to avoid duplicate files.
- If it is still missing, contact your agency with the message and file type and size. Use an existing library image while they check the problem.
Find and reuse a fileLink to this section
- Open a page and find its media field, or add an Image block.
- Choose Choose from existing.
- Use Search by File Name in the chooser, then select the intended file.
- Check its filename and thumbnail in the block. Save a draft and preview the result.
You can also use Create New from a block's media field to upload while editing. The file still joins the shared library.
Check the image on the pageLink to this section
In an Image block, Advanced settings offers width, image shape, movement, and an optional link. The available choices depend on where the image sits. A card may offer different width choices from a full page.
| Setting | What it does | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Width alignment | Keeps the image at its default width or expands it to the surrounding content area or screen. | Use a wider choice only when it fits the surrounding content. |
| Width | Sets the default image width by percentage or pixels. | Percentage widths adapt to the available space. |
| Aspect Ratio | Changes the shape of the displayed image. | Check that cropping still shows the subject. |
| Enable parallax effect | Adds a media movement effect. | Review it in preview. |
| Link Type | Leaves the image unlinked or gives it a custom or internal destination. | Test a linked image before publishing. |
Other files and library changesLink to this section
The library can also hold files supported by your site, such as videos or documents. Choose the appropriate block or link field to use them. For an uploaded video, review playback and loading settings with your agency if you are unsure.
Changing a reused file or its description can affect more than one page. Before replacing or removing a file, check where your team uses it. Ask your agency if you cannot identify its uses. Keep the original file outside the Admin as well.
Check afterwardsLink to this section
Confirm that the file appears in Uploads, has the right description, and is selected in the intended block. Preview on desktop and a smaller screen. Publish the page when it is ready; saving a library file alone does not publish a draft page.
